About me
Irene NGUTI intends to build a fashion and design economy that celebrates African Heritage.
Irene Nguti is a premier self-made Cameroonian fashion designer from the North West Region of Cameroon. The North West Region has a rich, infectious, vibrant colourful cultural heritage and creative industry. She is the founder and owner of the label ‘MBÒARTS DESIGNS’.
“Mbò” means “Hands” in the native Mankon dialect, the tribe (Ngemba) Irene hails from. The name of her label is carefully chosen to reflect her overwhelming love and preference for handmade African-loomed materials.

Her style is inspired by the cultural heritage of her native region, rich in colour, creativity and dynamism, and aim to promote African culture through her traditionally inspired ethic embroidery and seasoned loomed /customized designs

What I do
A passion for traditional craftsmanship, local materials and bespoke design
Mbòarts Designs aim to showcase the traditional Afrocentric vibes with a Pan- African aesthetic. Irene sources ancestral fabrics through equitable partnerships that she has established with traditional local weavers to produce pieces of art in collaboration with local Grass-field hand-embroidered designers..
Irene has taken upon herself to train vulnerable girls especially on hand detailed embroidery (with motives carrying varied messages ranging from peace to resilience) and other life skills. She has continued to employ professional partners treating them equitably despite the hardship that she and millions of others face.
The TOGHU intricate hand embroidered stitches adds beauty and character which blends with most fabrics from the Cultural area of Cameroon, West Africa, Nigeria and North Africa.
